Glen Ellyn Golden Eagles – 115lb Silver, Green

Vs

Bloomingdale Bears – 115lb Silver, Blue

In the 115lb Silver Division, both Bloomingdale Bears Blue team and the Glen Ellyn Golden Eagle Green team came in with records of 9-1. Both of the teams had knocked off higher seeded teams to get to the finals with the Eagles upsetting the undefeated top seed Bloomingdale Bears White team and the Bears beating the second seed Wheaton White team. The edge for this game had to belong to the Bears, however, having already handed the Eagles their only defeat of the year with a 22-0 victory. But this was the 2nd year in a row this Eagles team had come to the Super Bowl, having won last year at the 100lb Silver level. They were the first Glen Ellyn Silver team to win a Super Bowl and they wanted to do it again.

The Eagles received the opening kick off and drove the ball well picking up a first down in their first 3 plays, but a holding call on the next play drove them back ten yards, and they couldn’t recover from that. They ended up having to punt the ball away.

The Bears then started a long successful drive forcing the Eagles to make several defensive adjustments. The Eagles finally were able to stop the Bears on the Eagles own 20 yard line. But it was again difficult for them to move the ball and it was 3 downs and a punt for the Eagles. But that’s when everything turned around for them. The Bears fumbled Tim Hollowed’s 40+ yard punt and the Eagles Casey Curtis recovered the ball. It was a whole new set of downs for the Eagles starting on about the 50 yard line.

The Eagles then started a long steady drive towards the goal line led by Quaterback Rob Neyland with key first downs being ground out by the Full Back, Corey Fisher and the Left Wing, Tim Hollowed. The drive ended on a 10 yard first down run by Tim Hollowed landing on the 1 foot line. Corey Fisher then pounded the ball into the end zone for an easy 6 points. The 2 point conversion attempt from the Quarter Back, Rob Neyland to Dan Marshall was incomplete and the score at half time was 6-0.

It was pretty much a battle from that point on with the Bears fighting hard. But in the 3rd quarter the Eagles Right Wing, Casey Curtis behind the blocking of Jon Kefaloukos and Corey Fisher,  found daylight around the left end on a reverse play and sprinted 37 yards to the end zone to make the score 12-0. Again the 2 point conversion attempt was incomplete, so the Eagles would still have to play tough to win the game. The third quarter ended 12-0

The Bears came back tough in the forth quarter and had a powerful drive. They started throwing the ball completing key passes to their full back #93. The Eagles couldn’t adjust and the Bears ended up scoring several minutes later and converted the 1 point carry to make the score 12-7. The Eagles knew an onside kick was coming so they put in their hands team. Jon Kefalukos, number 11, recovered the onside kick for the Eagles. With a couple of minutes left on the clock, the Eagles still had to get some key first downs. Again, 35, Corey Fisher and 29, Tim Hollowed were able to come through and earn 2 hard first downs. Then with only 30 seconds on the clock, the Eagles took a knee, the time ran out and the Glen Ellyn Golden Eagles had over come a regular season loss to the Bloomingdale Bears and went on to win the 115lb Silver Super Bowl with a final score of 12-7.

35 – Corey Fisher end the game with 18 carries for 78 yards averaging 4.3 yards a carry and 1 touch down.

29 – Tim Hollowed carried the ball 14 times for 82 yards averaging 5.9 yards a carry.

2 – Casey Curtis carried the ball 8 times for 42 yards averaging 5.25 yards a carry and 1 touch down.

The key to the Eagles offense was their strong line play led by James Raveret, Adam Czamanske, Jon Kefaloukos, and Kevin Douglas on the interior and Mike Amato and Dan Marshall capping the ends. Without the line opening the holes for the running backs, you don’t get yards like we did and they opened up some nice holes! Also contributing were Mat Faryan, Blake Semmer as Tight Ends.

The Eagles defense was dominating also, led by key plays by Bobby Parratore, James Raveret, Brian Cozzi, Dan Marshall, Phil Warman, Tim Hollowed, and Casey Curtis taking down runners in the backfield and Mat Beymer, Ryan Leyva, Jon Kefaloukos, and Corey Fisher collapsing the interior line and blocking the door way. Rounding out the defense and containing the outsides were safeties Joe Serruto and Sean McMahon.

Also contributing to the Eagles victory were John Berent, Matt Dukleth, Pete Olejarski, David Raveret, Kevin Kuntz, Sam Hansel, and Sean O’Mara.
