Week 1 is lots of fun »pictures

On a very hot and humid Sunday morning the 80 lbs. gold team battled hard but lost to Bartlett. After falling behind 12-0 on 2 big plays, the eagle "D" shut down Bartlett for 3 and a half quarters. The offense moved the ball all morning long but managed only 1 TD. Tyler Dayton went around right end on a QB sweep and scored on a 60 yd. run.  With time running out the Eagles "O" was on the move, but a fumble halted the drive and the game ended. This week the 80lbs. gold plays a tough Wheaton team.  Good luck guys.  Coach Marconi

After falling behind 14-0 to a powerful Bartlett team the 130 lb Gold team came roaring back and provided the fans and coaches an exciting game that went into overtime. Unfortunately the comeback was in vain as Bartlett prevailed 22-14 : (

The Glen Ellyn 80# Silver-White team opened its season with an impressive 27-7 win over Downer's Grove Silver-White.  The key to the game was the strong play of the offensive line which continually opened holes for the backs and protected the QB.  As a result of the strong line play, QB Alex Jeske ran for 2 TDs and completed 3 of 5 passes.  FB Alex Haddon and TB Charlie Knapp joined in the fun with long TD runs as well.  The entire defense also posted a strong outing, consistently thwarting the Panthers unconventional offense.

Glen Ellyn 90lb Gold won over Bartlett 12 - 8.  There was a 2 yard touchdown run by Joe Schuessler and a 60 yard punt return by Danny Kiel.

Chad Lilly's 130# Silver White shuts out Bloomingdale Bears 12-zip.

Glen Ellyn 90# Green 13, Hanover Park  0.  The 90# Green team fought hard and beat the Hanover Park Hurricanes Saturday morning @ 9:00 am at Newton Park in our first season contest.  The victory was a real team effort lead by solid play by the line and hard running by the backfield.

The 80# Silver Green team had a great game with Jacob Stone and Jake Lueke each scoring 2 Touchdowns.  Kyle Bos was devastating at Middle Linebacker, recording 8 sacks!  Final score Glen Ellyn 80# green 25 West Chicago 7.

115lb silver-white got a lesson in basic smash mouth football in a 33-0 loss from a very tough and big Bloomingdale white team.

100# Gold loses a very close defensive battle 7-6 against Carol Stream.  The offensive line was the highlight along with our QB.   They were in ear shoot of the winning TD when the official declared a fumble on our tail back after he was on his back!

#90 Silver White loses to Wheaton Rams 12- 0 All 17 kids played a hard and spirited game in the heat and humidity on Saturday. The Rams had one good play late in the third quarter that resulted in a touchdown. Other than that, we went toe to toe with their considerably bigger (players) squad. As you can imagine, our players were worn out by the end of the game.

70 lb white beat South Elgin 40 to 0--WOW!   Not much of a game. South Elgin had all second graders, GE rosters a mix of 2nd and 3rd. They didn't run 3 plays that netted positive yardage. It was like the Bears & Patriots in Super Bowl XX. Next week they have a bye, and hopefully will have a good game against Bloomingdale.

The 100# silver white team battled Downers Grove to 6-6 tie in overtime.  The game was scoreless after regulation in a hard fought defensive battle.  Downers scored first in OT and  Glen Ellyn tied it with their possession.

Week 2 marks the end of the 1st quarter of our regular season! »pictures

The "unstoppable" Myles Purdum shot through  a huge hole on the right side of the 100 Silver - Green's line on the first play from scrimmage to score on a 60 yard scamper up the sideline.  That play turned out to be the difference in the game with Downers Grove - White as the Golden Eagles won 18 - 12. Glen Ellyn continued to get crushing blocks all game long from it's power front line consisting of Aaron Beese, Henry Kummerer, Ben Jackson,  Alex Lekacz, Justin Jourdan, Joe Kornblith, and Mac Corbin.

70# Gold scores HUGE!!!  Score:  44 to 0. We were much bigger, faster, and organized than Elgin. We even took our first string out for the second half. The kids executed very well and had lots of fun.--Coach Mike

In week 1 The they team lost a hard fought game to the Wheaton Rams Green on the last play of overtime.  The final score was 13-12 in favor of the Rams.  Glen Ellyn had an effective passing and running game throughout the contest.  After a G.E. touchdown was called back, Wheaton was able to hold off the fired up Golden Eagles in the fourth quarter and come up with the win in overtime.

The 100 pound silver white team enjoyed a 33-12 win over Bloomingdale.  The offensive line was the key to victory, as five different players got into the end zone.  The defense played very well by forcing two turnovers.  Great job Golden Eagles!--Coach Dan Hasso

The 90lb Gold team lost 12 - 6 to Wheaton Yellow.  Wheaton scored to win the game with 35 seconds left in a very exciting game.  Egan Montgomery scored our touchdown on a 3 yard run in the second half.--Coach Dave Kiel

115lb Silver White bounced back with a resounding victory over the Elmhurst Eagles 32-0. Welcome back GE Eagles "D"!!!--Coach Jay Malo

The Glen Ellyn 80lb Green team lost in a close Battle against a good South Elgin Team 7 - 0.   The critical play of the game was in the third Quarter when CJ Sojka completed a 60 yard touch down pass to Spencer Refer, who made a tremendous catch, broke a couple of tackles, and ran for the touch down!  Unfortunately the play was called back on a mysterious block in the back call away from the play.  Playing well for the Green team was Connor Willis who had some monstrous tackles at DE, Teddy Burns at Linebacker and Patrick Flood at Defensive Tackle.  Jack Kellenberger also played great with 2 fumble recoveries.  The Green team looks to get back on track this week when the play the Buffalo Grove yellow team on Saturday at 10AM in Buffalo Grove!--Coach Robert Gibson.

The 115lb Silver-Green team has come on strong again this year. The first week they defeated the Bartlett Raiders 34-6. They came to play during week two beating the Hinsdale Falcons decisively 42-19. It was a banner season last year forAug29.041.jpg the100lb Silver-Yellow (as they were known in 2003) team culminating in the first Championship victory by a Glen Ellyn Silver team in the history of GE football. The victory against Downers Grove at Northern Illinois University solidified the teams desire to play together again in 2004. With 16 out of 22 players returning and the addition of 10 new players the team has more depth at virtually every position. The familiar pre-game chant "Men, what is Eagles football?" "Sir, Eagles football is 40 minutes of hitting, blocking, tackling and guts! It's football played to win and winners we are! .....we love it.....we love it...we love it" While it may sound silly to some. It has become our motivational warm-up. The boys know what is expected of them and they give 110% at every game and practice. The competition has come to know they had better be prepared for a knock down drag out battle if they hope to stay in the game--Coach Joe Beymer.

The 80lbs.Gold played an almost flawless game on both sides of the ball Sunday morning.  After stopping  Wheaton on 3 plays, Zach Hassan returned the Wheaton punt for the 1st Eagle TD. The Eagle "D" stopped Wheaton dead in their tracks for the entire 1st half . With time winding down they forced Wheaton to turn the ball over on downs. It was time for the Eagle offense to show what they could do. Marching the ball down inside the 10yd. line, Coach Dayton called on Tyler Dayton to sweep the right side and go in for the score, halftime score Eagles13 Wheaton 0. Wheaton came out the 2nd half a new team as they marched down field 60yds. for a TD, unfortunately the drive consumed the entire 3rd quarter. The Eagles came right back with a quick score as Dylan Koehler reversed around left end and went 60yds. for the 3rd Eagle TD. Once again the Eagle "D" stopped Wheaton on  downs. The scoring was complete when Joe Marconi went off tackle and raced 50yds. for the last Eagle TD. Final score Eagle 26 Wheaton 6.  Coach Coach George Marconi

100# Gold gets schooled by Wheaton Yellow 35-0

Week 3--almost 1/2 way there! »pictures

Winning on the road is always a tough thing to do even for a  youth football team. But the 80 lb Gold was up to the task against Bloomingdale on Sunday morning. With two tough road games back to back, the Eagles needed that 1st. win. They came thru with a 12-0 shut out of a very potent Bloomingdale offense. Dylan Koelher scored both Eagle TD's, one on a punt return and the other on a 60yd. run. The Eagle "D" was superb, as they stopped a Bloomingdale team that scored 44 points the week before. This was the 2nd shut out of the  year for the Eagle "D". Good luck this week against Buffalo Grove.--Coach George Marconi

100lb. Gold lead Lombard at the half--7 to 6.  The offense was a little sluggish without their crusher fullback Owen Meyer who was attending the funeral services of his Grandmother.  The D was stellar stopping all Lombard charges except a couple long passes--35 yards plus, rare for this age.  By the 4th quarter the score remained 7-6 eagles.  Then, a surprising blocked punt got picked up by the Lombard D and run in for 6.  This put a lull on the Eagles spirit which they did not recover.--Coach Jim Van Petten

This weekends game for the 130lb Silver/White will be playing on Sunday Sept. 26 at 4pm in Buffalo Grove instead of Saturday Sept. 25th.  This team is looking to bounce back from some tough losses.  In week 2 we lost to Bartlett 20-16, a team that has really taken it too this squad in the past couple of years.  The teams went back and forth in the first half to end up with a Glen Ellyn lead at half 15-16.  Bartlett scored in the 2nd half.  Glen Ellyn stopped them with about 2 minutes to go in the game on 4th and 2 to give us a shot at coming back.  Unfortunately it was not to happen that day.  This past week playing a tough Wheaton team the squad was subject to the big play.  Our team produced two touchdowns but we also found our self on the 10 yard line 3 times.  Turnovers were again the key factor.  The team is pulling together and look for more success in the coming weeks.--Coach Lilly

Big big game for GE. 115 Silver shuts out Hanover Park!

The force is with us. The 115lb Silver-Green machine is on a roll. By the end of the first half the Eagles had a commanding 21-0 lead against the Hanover Park Hurricanes. Tim Hollowed spent most of his time in the Hurricanes end-zone, with three touch down runs. The half time pep talk brought the boys back to reality. "If we can score 21 points in 20 minutes so can they" bellowed Coach Fisher. Reminding the players of our credo. "40 minutes of hitting, blocking tackling and guts"..... The team responded by adding another 10 points to the tally. Final score Eagles Silver-Green - 31, Hanover Park - 0. The success, while obviously a strong offensive backfield, truly has to be credited to a defense that will accept NO opponent gaining any kind of control on the field. As the coach responsible for player rotation, it is far easier to rotate defensive linemen than any other position. My dilemma is that our defense isn't on the field enough to accomplish this. Generally 4 in and out. Regardless ALL players have been on the field for extended periods of time. Note to the nay Sayers, we have had only 3 penalties called against us the entire season. A credit to the sportsmanship exhibited by the entire team.--Coach Joe Beymer

The 100# Silver White team lost to Bartlett Silver 22-0.  Bartlett had been averaging 42 points per game.  The game was scoreless after the first quarter.  Bartlett then did all of their damage in the second, scoring on three long pass plays.  The Golden Eagle offense was able to move the ball on the ground but they could not cross the end zone.  The boys from Glen Ellyn were disappointed in the loss but showed no signs of quitting.  They played very well overall.--Coach Dan Hasso

The 115 lb silver white lose a heartbreaker to Carol Stream Black 26-28. With one minute thirty seconds to play the Eagles were faced with a 4th and 10. Chris Kavanaugh (The Punky QB) rolled to his right and completed a 20 yard pass with Rudy Gorman on the receiving end. Forty five seconds to go Nick Telander rips-off another five yards to get us to the Carol Stream 20. Thirty seconds to go again "The Punky QB" rolled to his left in an attempt to complete to Joe Mistal but was picked off to end the game. These two teams battled it out all afternoon. Great job to all!--Coach Jay Malo

Big overtime victory for Glen Ellyn!

The Glen Ellyn 80lb Green team pulled out a hard fought win against a tough Buffalo Grove team 7-6. This truly was a complete "Team" Effort! The game was a scoreless tie at the end of regulation with both offenses moving the ball well throughout the game, but could not punch in a score.  Buffalo Grove took the ball first in overtime and swept left on a 3rd and goal from the 9 and scored a touchdown. The extra point was stopped by an overpowering defensive line led by Grant Greeno. Now it was GE's turn.  Behind the power running of Sam Knapke, the eagles moved the ball to the 4 yard line.  On 4th down and goal, CJ Sojka on a play action pass completed the game tying throw to Chase Ross in the endzone. Jacob Stone powered his way up the middle with the help of 3 or 4 team mates pushing him in for the decisive point and the eagles won 7-6. Next up for the 80 lb. Green team is Lombard White!--Coach Bob Gibson

115lb Silver/Green Wins Again!

As a result of a tough 19 to 0 victory over the Buffalo Grove Bills this past Sunday, the 115lb Silver/Green record has gone to 4 and 0. Both team's defenses dominated in a close first half until #2 Casey Curtis scrambled for the first TD giving Green a 6 to 0 lead at the end of the half. Joe Serruto's interception at the start of the second half led to another score by Tim Hollowed. This was Serruto's third interception of the year. After that, Green's defense really started to dominate. Backup running backs Sean McMahon and Phil Warman have distinguished themselves in recent games. McMahon's 20 yard scramble in the 4th quarter setup the final touchdown of the game. McMahon then drove in for the extra point. Rob Neyland at quarterback continues to shine. In four games this year BIG GREEN has scored over 100 points! The team will this week welcome back one of its stalwart linemen, John Berent from an injury. Our defensive team continues to be our strength allowing only 25 points in four games this year. -- Don Warman

Buffalo Grove - The 130 Silver-White team put together an all around solid performance defeating the Bill 27 - 6 to improve to 2-2 in the division.    This was a break through game for our QB Chris Cochrane as he connected with two long pass plays to Matt Johnson (who has scored in every game so far this season) and Ryan Thompson.  Thompson also found the end zone later in the game on about a 13 yard scramble after punishing two Bills with a devastating stiff arm.  Adam Bruere continued to dominate and scare opponents with quick movements (all that speed work :-)) to the outside scoring in the second series of the game on a 30 yard run.  These backs owe a lot to their offensive line which has done a great job powering the holes and creating a wall of blockers to follow.  Fantastic job gentlemen!  The Bills did manage a big play to score in the 1st half.  They threatened once more but the Eagle defense worked the tip drill to perfection, intercepting a pass to end the drive.  The defense allowed very few first downs and caused a few turnovers.  The offense consistently moved the ball at 4-5 yards per play even putting together a 10 play 80 yard drive for a score.  Next week the Eagles will have a battle with the other Eagle team out in Elmhurst.  We look to see many of the fans out there!  Keep shaking those shakers and cheering this team on to victory.  - Coach Lilly

In what is becoming a recurring theme, the 80lb Silver Green played another great "TEAM" game to beat a tough Lombard team 25-6 to improve their record to 3 and 1. Grant Greeno scored the first touchdown of the game on a 40 yard run off of right tackle while following the blocks of Morgan Samson, Jeff White, Jack Kellenberger, Jack Prescott, Jake Lueck, Connor Willis, Matt Udelhofen, and Alvi Shuke. Jacob Stone followed with 2 touchdowns and Jake Lueck scored the last one on a nicely executed 8 play drive to end the game. Next up for the Eagles is Hanover Park this Saturday! - Robert Gibson

The 80lbs. Gold rolls to another road win. Playing a tough Buffalo Grove team is hard enough but on the road is even tougher, especially when the Eagle "D" had to shut down their main running back "JUMBO". After trading 1st quarter possessions, Hassan breaks a quick hitter up the middle for a 55yd. TD. Not to be out done, Buffalo Grove strikes back on the next play with half back pass for a 60yd. TD, but the "D" stops the extra point and the Eagles lead 7-6. With 10 seconds left in the 1st half Dayton hits Marconi on a 70yd. pass and the Eagles take a 13-6 lead into the half. Buffalo Grove comes out on fire to start the 2nd half. They march down the field to a 1st and goal at the 2 yd. line. Then in what Coach Koelher called "the greatest defensive stand I have ever seen," the Eagle "D" stops JUMBO on four plays, and takes over with a 1st and 10 at the one foot line. After failing to make a 1st down the Eagles must punt. Who else but JUMBO could now change the direction of the game. Marshall"s punt is taken by JUMBO, and you guessed it, he runs it back for a TD. But the Eagle"D" stuffs the extra point. Score 13-12 Eagles, now starting the 4th quarter. Now its up to the Eagle "O" to have a long, time consuming drive. They do just that and more. Facing a 3rd long Coach Dayton calls on the arm of Tyler Dayton, who connects with Hassan for 50yd. catch and run down to the two yd. line. Dayton scores on the QB sneak to make the score 19-12 with 2 min. left. Buffalo Grove throws a long pass  down to the Eagle 20 yd. line with only seconds left in the game. Time for one more pass play, but Jack Wagner seals the win with an interception. Final score Eagles 19 Bills 12. Next week is Lombard for Homecoming. - George Marconi

The 115lb Silver White team was victorious over a strong Downers Grove (blue) team 12-6 on Saturday. The Eagles took the first possession and tearing up chunks of yardage on the ground put the pigskin into the end zone first. After a battle between the 30's the eagle went into the half up 6-0. The second half DG came out with fire power battering the Eagle's defense until a costly fumble got the Eagle's the ball back on our 20. The DG defense equally as tough strip the ball from Andrew "Bogie" Bogadanski and returned it to the Eagles 5 yard line and eventually scoring to tie the game. The fourth quarter came and so did the Eagles "D". Bogie returned the favor and stripped the football from DG running back and returned it for a short gain. The offenses again took control of the game and scored the winning TD with about 2 minutes to play and let the Eagle's high flying "D" finish off the game. Great job by all. Hope to see everyone at Homecoming this weekend to watch your Eagles!!!!! - Jay Maylo

HOMECOMING!

Week 5! »pictures

How was the 80 lbs. Gold team going to improve to a record of 4-1, take sole procession of 2nd place, and beat a strong Lombard team, all in the same day, you ask? The answer, the Dylan Koehler show. Koehler scored, going untouched, in the 1st quarter on a 65yd. counter play. Then early in the 2nd quarter, with Lombard driving, Koehler intercepted a pass and returned it 50yds. to set up a Dayton to Hanson 10yd. TD pass. The 2nd half was pure Bill George smash mouth football with both teams slugging it out around the 50yd. line. The Eagle "D" records its 3rd shut out with all the boys playing great football. Final score Eagles13 Lombard 0. - George Marconi

115lb Silver-Green VS Elmhurst Green

Saturday, October 2nd 2004

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon and the 115lb Silver – Green team continued it winning ways with a convincing 39-0 win over the Elmhurst Eagles. Tim Hollwed and Casey Curtis led the offence with a couple of long TD runs, Tim’s on a broken off-tackle play and Casey’s on a perfectly executed counter. But this game was to be dedicated to a very talented group of linemen, and they showed what can be accomplished at the “Silver” level of play. It was the great blocking of our offensive line (Bob Parratore, Jon Kefaloukos, James Raveret, Kevin Douglas and Adam Czamanske) which opened gaping holes in the Elmhurst line. »more

Week five was another success for the 115lb silver white as we beat Bartlett 18-0. Bartlett, despite one of their coaches, played a very tough first half in which the mighty Eagles was only up 6-0. After a half time chomping by head coach the Eagles got back on track scored on two of their next three possessions. Congrats to Bartlett for playing an excellent game despite being 0-5. - Coach Malo

The 80lb silver green team rebounded after a slow start to win 26-6 against a surprisingly resilient Hanover park team.  The defense played another great "Team" game inspired by Coach Jim Prescott's gang tackle Philosophy.  On offense, the dynamic duo of Coach Chris Stone and Coach Jason Bedsworth combined for some great half time adjustments to score 20 points in the second half, 12 of those points coming on pass plays from CJ Sojka to Kyle Bos and to Chase Ross.   Sam Knapke ran for over 100 yards behind what has come to be known as the "Angus" line of Grant Greeno, Jake Lueck, Jacob Stone, Jeff White, Kyle Bos, Chase Ross. and Connor Willis.   Next up for the 4-1 silver team is Carol Stream Yellow! - Robert Gibxon

Homecoming Away for 130 Silver/White:  Elmhurst - The Golden Eagles met the other Eagles in a sea of green.  The Green and Gold prevailed getting 7 different Eagles to put points onto the board.  The Eagles were without their starting FB Matt Johnson but got great performances out of Andrew Groesch and Mike Sandoz.  The running game was on track the whole game.  Chris Cochrane is getting more comfortable throwing the ball and connected with Ryan Thompson on a 7 yard toss into the corner of the end zone.  Thompson would find the end zone again in the 2nd half.  Sandoz added the other score in the first half running right before cutting it all the way back for a score.  Sandoz also made a heads up play in the 2nd half, grabbing a loose ball and running to the 3 yard line.  A. Groesch pushed it in to put the game out of reach.  Adam Bruere started off the 2nd half with tremendous run around end to pull off a 50+ yard run for a TD.  The offensive line of Riley Blevins, Danny Baldwin, Mitch Meyer, Sean Lindstrom, Zack Renkert, Chris Huppertz, Mike Summers and Dylan Sherman were executing all day pushing into the line and creating a wall of blockers to run behind.  Also, a solid performance by our defense creating turnovers all day long.  Eric Toombs and John McGinnis played well in the secondary deflecting passes, and Toombs intercepted two passes, running one of those back for a score.  Jack O'Conner also made a great contribution playing and finding the end zone.  He may be the smallest guy out there on the field but he sure knows how to run!  Great job gentlemen.  We are 1 more step closer to our goal!  Keep it up.  -  Coach Lilly

Week 6

WOW!!! what a game the fans witnessed on Sunday at Downers Grove. The 80lbs. Gold needed a win to keep up with Bartlett but a tricky Downers Grove team stood in their way. After the Eagle "O" turned the ball over on downs to start the game, the Eagle "D" entered the game not knowing what to expect from the Downers Grove offense. Starting at their own the 35yd. line the Panthers sliced thru the Eagle "D" to inside the 20yd. line but Zach Hassan ripped the ball loose and the  Eagles got the ball. Now it was the Eagle "O" that marched down the field and scored on a 40yd. run, but wait, yellow flags covered the field and the TD was called back and the Eagles gave up the ball. Coach Koehler's bend-but-don't-break defense had to go back on the field. They now were hit with an array of double reverses, half back passes and even the kitchen sink, but they did not break. With a 1st down and goal from the 5yd. line the Eagle "D" dug in. Stopping the Panthers seemed impossible but after a loss of 15yds. on three plays, it brought up a fourth and goal from the 20. The Eagles didn't know what to expect. What they saw was the old statue of liberty play but it didn't fool the Eagles. They stopped another opponent inside the 5yd. line for zero points. Taking the ball the "O" needed to get the ball off the goal line.  Koehler broke a big gainer up to the 30yd. line but the drive stalled and the punting unit came out. The Panthers completely turned around any momentum the Eagles had by retuning the punt for a TD. Downers seemed to now have gained the upper hand and wanted to keep it by kicking an on-side kick but James Dan saved the day by recovering the ball. Once again the Eagles gave the ball up on downs and had to turn over the ball with under a minute left in the half. The Panthers threw every trick play they could against the Eagles, but had no success. The last play of the half now loomed, if the Eagles could stop them it would be a moral victory, if not , all would be lost. What happened next seemed to set the tone for the 2nd half, the Panther QB rolled out left to pass and was hammered by Ben "the claw" Kane. Halftime score Panthers 7 Eagles 0. The Eagles came out a new team, Hanson recovered the on-side kick and totally shifted the momentum of the game. The Eagles now turned to Coach Dayton's power running attack and scored on a Koehler 20yd. run to tie up the game. Now the dreaded Eagle "D" was turned loose to wreck and ruin any trick play that was called. Stopping the Panthers on four plays the "O" got the ball back and marched down the field like Sherman thru Georgia. Dayton scored on QB keeper and made the score 13-7 Eagles. With 5 min. left in the game anything could happen. The Panthers took the kick off down to the Eagle 20 yd. line but the "D" pushed the Panthers back to their own 40yd. line with a series of sacks and got the ball back on downs. To put icing on the cake, Marconi went right, off tackle and scored on a 40yd. run. The Panthers didn't give up and attempted a couple of long passes but a two devastating hits by Wags, Koehler and Berg sealed the victory.  Final score Eagles 19 Panthers 7. It has now been 11 straight quarters since the Eagle "D" has given up a TD. Good Luck next week. - Coach Marconi

The 80lb silver team reflected their motto of 4 quarters of football on Sunday with a never quit attitude that almost led to a score on the final drive. In a tough fought game, the 80lb silver green team took on the undefeated and un-scored upon Carol Stream Yellow. With less than 2 minutes to go in the game the eagles drove the ball from their own 45 yard line down to the panthers 15 before running out of time and downs. The offensive line of Morgan Samson , Jeff White, Jack Kellenberger, Jack Prescott, Liam Douglas, Teddy Burns, and Chase Ross, played well. Next up for the Eagles is 4-2 Downers Grove!

Glen Ellyn 130 Silver/White - What a game... if you did not see it watch it on Tuesday night on GETV at 7:30pm.  These kids played their hearts out.  This team was down a few people but that did not deter them from pounding the ball at Lombard.  They put up 14 points on the board including a hard fought 75 yard drive capped off by a 3 yard 2nd effort sweep by Ryan Thompson.  Surrounded by 3 Falcons he was knocked around but dove for the end zone punching it in after controlling the ball for 5 minutes.  Glen Ellyn started out the scoring on the day on its first drive with Eric Toombs off a counter which raced 50+ yards for the first score of the game capped by a 2pt pass to put GE up 8-0.  Lombard was able to air it out with their QB could throw hitting his receiver with 1 second left in the half to pull it closer 14-6.  The game went back and forth in the 2nd half until Lombard put together a drive later in the 4th that found the mark and the extra point to tie it 14-14.  With 2 minutes Lombard put ran a fake reverse and scampered for the final score.  GE mounted a comeback drive hitting Thompson in the flat for about 20 yards before taken out of bounds stopping the clock.  The next play was picked off by Lombard ending the drive and the game.  The line again did a great job opening up the holes and protecting the QB.  My hats off to those guys and the rest of the team.  What a great TEAM effort!  I am very proud to be your coach - C. Lilly

100 Gold places the big "W" on the scoreboard against South Elgin.  Daver Glawe and Mark Hibben took turns at QB both proving their leadership abilities with key plays and a final score of 31-6.  Justin Mesch caught 3 long passes running 2 of them all the way.  On D, Andrew Larkin (MLB) plugged the middle while E.J. Howe pounded the South Elgin line and backfield.

80 Gold on there way to a 6-1 record with there 6th victory in a row

Overtime Win in Wheaton for 115lb Silver – Green  10/9/04Game six for the 115lb Silver-Green team took place on Saturday, October 9th against the Wheaton Rams Silver-White. Both teams were going into this game undefeated. What a game this was going to be.

“Big Green” moved the ball steadily down the field. Casey Curtis then had a break-away on a counter play that led the Eagles to the 9 yard line. But the Rams defense stiffened up and held the Eagles from any further progression. The game continued to go back and forth showing why these two teams were both undefeated. Then, early in the 2nd quarter, Tim Hollowed sprinted to the right side behind the blocking of Corey Fisher and Casey Curtis on a Wing Sweep and scooted into the clear. After breaking one final tackle on the 10 yard line, he collapsed in the end-zone for the first score of the game. The Eagles were unable to convert the extra point and kicked off to the Rams with a 6-0 lead.

The Eagles defense was doing very well holding the Rams to short or no gain on the next several plays. Then on a mistackle in the backfield, the Rams had a break-away scrambling over the right side of the Eagles defense. Breaking through several more tackles, the Rams running back made it to the end zone, tying the game at 6-6. The Eagles defense pulled themselves back into the game and stuffed the Rams on the extra point try.

The battle continued up and down the field, each team stopping the other from scoring. Late in the 4th quarter, the Rams marched steadily down the field to the Eagles 10 yard line. There, with regulation time quickly running out, the Eagles needed to hold the Rams to force an overtime playoff. With a truly heroic effort of the defensive team, and the help of the Glen Ellyn 115lb Silver White team screaming “DEFENSE”, from the side lines, the Eagles held the Rams four straight plays with little or no gain, the final play being a well thrown pass over the middle that was batted down by the rookie Safety, Sean McMahon.

The Rams won the toss for the beginning of the “Shot-Gun” play off. They elected to let the Eagles go on offense first. The ball was placed on the 10 yard line and the Eagles were given 4 plays and 1 time out to score. Through-out the game, the Rams had stopped the Eagles outside game with excellent containment play; however on this occasion Head Coach Bruce Fisher and his Offensive Coordinator Kevin Douglas chose to run a Trap play with their fullback over their right guard. The offensive line blocked flawlessly as the Quarterback Rob Neyland handed the ball to the Fullback, Corey Fisher. Corey then broke 4 tackles on his 10 yard run to the end zone! The Eagles then lined up for the conversion and with a well timed throw to our halfback, Tim Hollowed, Rob Neyland connected for 2 points. The Eagles now led 14-6.

It was then Wheaton’s turn. With the cheering crowd again screaming “defense” the Eagles shut the Rams down with a 5 yard loss in 3 plays. The Rams were down to their last play. Their quarterback dropped back for one last passing attempt, but Corey Fisher, the left goal-line tackle was closing fast on him. He dumped the ball off to his left where it was caught behind the line of scrimmage by the half back. As soon as the catch was made, Phil Warman, the Ealges right outside linebacker made a crushing tackle that ended the game with a victory for the Ealges.

It was truly a team effort given by the entire 115lb Silver-Green team. The “Handshake Lineup” was such a positive way to end the game, with both teams proud of the way they played. The Wheaton coaches were terrific and proud of their players as well they should be. Thanks go out to the Wheaton Rams for a great day, a great team, great coaches and great sportsmanship. Everyone won in that game! – Don Warman

Same old story for the 80lbs. Gold team, another week, another win. Final score Eagles 14  South Elgin 0.  The "D" extends its scoreless streak to 15 quarters, posts its fourth shut out, and scores a TD on a interception return by Wags. The "O" was led by the hard running of Dayton, Hassan ,Koehler, and Marconi. But this is not the whole story. The founding fathers of football had three basic rules for the game 1) BLOCK 2) TACKLE 3) RUN THE BALL. The 80 lbs. Gold team does all three well, but the boys on the line never get the ink or the glory. Its been said that running backs are a dime a dozen and linemen, on both sides of the ball, are worth their weight in gold. So this is to all the boys that play the line, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST. Buckley, Berg, Dan, Garland, Kane, McDonough, Marshall, J.Hassan, Gorski, Haeffner, Tymoszenko, Hason, Wagner, Strittmater. These are the boys of the 80lbs. Gold team that open the holes or stuff the run up the middle. They are the heart and sole of all youth football teams. They are LINEMEN. THEY ARE THE BEST!!!!

Week 4--1/2 way there! »pictures

- Jay Maylo

Week 5 and we're still alive!

DEFENSE--You can't loose if your opponent cant score!  For the 3rd time this year 80lb Silver/Yellow shuts-out their opponent (Tri-City Blue) 22-0. And this "stingy" Eagle defense has only given up 1 td all year!  On offense Koehler scores twice on runs of 80yds. and 60yds. Marconi scores once on a 50 yd. run. Dayton hits Monocchio for 2 extra point passes to round out the scoring. Next week these Eagles face their toughest opponent in a Carol Stream team that is 5-0 and plays great defense. You don't want to miss this one fans.

Week 6--Glen Ellyn's finest yet...

10 wins 4 losses for Glen Ellyn this week!
80lb Silver/Yellow fans were treated to a great game Sunday morning but the Eagles came up 6 points short. After scoring on their first two possessions, the eagle defense shut out and shut down the carol stream offense. For 2 1/2 quarters the eagle "D" did not give up a first down. At the start of the 2nd half the Golden Eagles were fired up and scored the first time they got the ball. With 4th and goal from the 12yd. line Koehler went around end then cut up the middle for the score.  The 2 point conversion pass was good from Dayton to Monocchio and made the score 14-8 with the 4th quarter still to be played. After trading possessions the eagle "D" made another great stand on a 4th and short to get the ball back with under a minute to play. With one play left Coach Dayton called the old hook and ladder play, it worked to perfection but came up short as time expired. Final score Carol Stream  14   Golden Eagles 8.  Next two weeks are critical for this Eagle team as they must win their last two games to guarantee a playoff position.  George Marconi

What do you think?  Could this fledgling be the next Walter Payton?  It all starts here in our Flag league.

Here's former Golden Eagles running back #14 Kyle Smith burning up the field for the Glenbard West Hill Toppers.  He brakes this tackle for a big gain.

Is that a Glen Ellyn Golden Eagle putting the hurt on NFL running back #20  DeShaun Foster of the Carolina Panthers?  Nope, its Glen Ellyn's very own Matt Bowen, 4 yr veteran of the NFL sporting a Packers UniformMatthew Sean Bowen was born in Glen Ellyn, Ill, Was All-state, all-area and all-conference as a senior quarterback at Glenbard West High School.  He was Team captain and most valuable player, passing for 1,533 yards and 17 touchdowns, and gaining 1,329 yards with 17 scores on the ground in his final season ...
